My work has always been about construction. Selectively manipulating the existing environment for purpose or comfort. Through a material exploration of space, I am interested in the methods into which we focus our labor. From a spatial perspective, there are a variety of boundaries for what I identify with. I can define home in a room, towns, states (of mind), landscape, emotions, companions or environment. The relationship I develop with each place is forged from many influences. Accordingly, the way home is defined Home is Where the Hole Is grows more nebulous than the pentagonal gabled icon that comes to mind on first consideration. As a result, the form of the works plays on psychology of species, and the connection to place beyond the civilized or enlightened world. - Christian Benefiel
